Days of the Week/ 요일
One of the most important topics you need to know in English are the days of the week. In America, the first day of the week is Sunday while the last day of the week is Saturday. It was named after the seven planets of classical astronomy, which were actually the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. It was then changed by the Germanic people and became what it is today.
The days of the week follow a pattern like the Korean days of the week. In English, each day ends with -day.
Days of the WeekSunday-일요일
Monday-월요일
Tuesday -화요일
Thursday - 목요일
Friday -금요일
Saturday - 토요일
To say when something happened on that day, you say:
- On Saturday, I didn't have school.
- I didn't have school on Saturday.
*You could drop "On" when it is at the beginning of the sentence.
- Correct: Friday, I went to the mall.
- Wrong: I went to the mall Friday.
To state a specific time of day, add "morning, afternoon,or night".
- I went to the market on Sunday afternoon.
